Most of us expect to get the run-around when we pick up the phone to make a collections call. Sometimes, that mindset can translate over the phone wire causing walls and defenses to come up. When your customer senses a negative attitude from you, you’re much less likely to resolve the issue at hand.

Don’t assume anything. There are times when you’ll absolutely get the run-around. But there are times when your customer is telling you everything he knows truthfully. Listen first. Get all the facts without any preconceived ideas for the best possible outcome.
